The Atlanta Falcons have parted ways with Head Coach Raheem Morris and General Manager Terry Fontenot, following a strategic decision to re-evaluate their leadership structure. This move comes after a meeting with Falcons Owner and Chairman, Arthur M. Blank, and marks the end of their tenure with the team. The 2025 season concluded early, following a home game against the New Orleans team.
Raheem Morris, who took on the role of head coach after the 2023 season, led the team through the final 11 games of the 2020 season as an interim coach. Despite his efforts, the Falcons struggled, finishing with a record of 8-9 in both 2024 and 2025. This performance resulted in an overall record of 16-18 during his tenure, with no playoff appearances. Interestingly, Morris' interim role in 2020 saw the team achieve a 4-7 record in the final 11 games.
Terry Fontenot, who joined the Falcons in 2021, completed his fifth season with the team. His leadership resulted in a record of 37-48, with no playoff appearances. This decision to part ways comes as a strategic move to bring in new leadership and potentially improve the team's performance and standing in the league.
Arthur M. Blank, the Falcons Owner and Chairman, expressed his appreciation for both Morris and Fontenot's contributions, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. However, he also emphasized the need for new leadership to drive the team forward. Blank stated, 'The decision to move away from individuals who have represented the organization so well and shared a commitment to its values is not easy. However, the results on the field have not met our expectations or those of our fans and leadership.'
The search for a new head coach and general manager will begin immediately, with ZRG Partners assisting in the head coach search and Sportsology Group aiding in the general manager role. While no timeline has been set, these searches will occur concurrently, aiming to bring in fresh talent and leadership to the Falcons organization.
