Boldly stepping onto the field, USC has made a striking move by securing NC State's impressive wide receiver transfer, Terrell Anderson. This acquisition highlights USC's proactive strategy as they look to strengthen their roster following the departure of some key players in their wide receiver lineup.
Among their top targets was Anderson, a standout player who emerged as one of the most sought-after talents available in the transfer portal. After visiting Los Angeles over the weekend, the anticipation culminated in Anderson announcing his commitment to join the Trojans, a decision that promises to have significant implications for the team’s future.
Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 185 pounds, Anderson is poised to fill the shoes of star receiver Ja’Kobi Lane, who is heading to the NFL Draft. Over his two seasons with the Wolf Pack, Anderson demonstrated his prowess on the field, catching 53 passes for 787 yards and scoring six touchdowns, averaging an impressive 14 yards per catch. His breakout season came in 2025 when he recorded 39 receptions for 629 yards (averaging 16.1 yards per catch) and five touchdowns, solidifying his reputation as a formidable player. Currently, he holds the distinction of being ranked the No. 26 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings and is recognized as the fourth-best wide receiver in the portal.
Anderson isn’t expected to be the only new face in USC's wide receiver corps. The Trojans are also looking to replace Biletnikoff Award winner Makai Lemon, who, along with Lane, accounted for nearly half of USC's total receptions and receiving yards this past season. With Jayden Maiava returning as starting quarterback in 2026, head coach Lincoln Riley and his team are committed to surrounding him with talented players to enhance their offensive strategy.
Additionally, the Trojans will benefit from the return of standout true freshman Tanook Hines, who made waves during his inaugural season with 561 receiving yards and two touchdowns from 34 catches. With Hines likely securing the Z-receiver position, USC will need Anderson and at least one more starter, alongside some depth options, to complete their receiving class.
With reserves Jay Fair and Jaden Richardson both running out of eligibility after contributing just 13 catches between them this season, the urgency for new talent in the wide receiver department is clear.
USC's aggressive pursuit of Anderson reflects their intent to revamp their roster quickly. They were among the first teams to actively engage with him once the transfer portal window opened. This proactive approach has yielded results, as Riley and his staff have already welcomed four transfers in just the first three days of the portal period. Alongside Anderson, the Trojans have also secured former All-Big 12 cornerback Jontez Williams from Iowa State, linebacker Deven Bryant from Washington State, and cornerback Carrington Pierce from Oklahoma State.
Bryant had a standout year, starting for most of the season and finishing fifth in snaps among all defensive players and leading all linebackers. His season concluded with 62 tackles and two passes defended, showcasing his defensive capabilities. Meanwhile, even though Williams faced injuries this season, he was still regarded as one of the top cornerbacks in the Big 12 during 2024 and ranked within the top 30 players in the transfer portal.
